Intermediate Licence Training

Intermediate Licence Training from The Cornish Radio Amateur Club

If you are thinking if sending your enquiry through to Graham from
this page you are probably in the same position as Kira M6KIR, a Foundation
Licence Holderm able to transmit on most bands using a restricted power
level of 10W.

Under good band conditions 10W will enable you to ‘work the world’ but, with
possibly inefficient antennas in the equation your signal will be several Db’s
down on those of operators running higher power levels.

To break away from the restrictions you currently operate under you will need
to progress through the ranks and become an Intermediate licensee and gain
a “2E” call and the right to operate with up to 50W to boost your output.

I am told that this is not a syllabus to be frightened of and if you listen on HF
regularly you will have realised that there are many very successful intermediate
stations on air and this may be the level at which you stop especially if you
live in urban surroundings with close neighbours who may be affec ted by higher
power levels emanating from your station.

By clicking on the next link you will see the Radio Society of Great Britain’s
description of this level of proficiency.
